Palau currently celebrates 11 national holidays. Of these holidays, two are shared with those in the United States as a way to honour the free association between the two countries.
The president of Palau has the authority to grant one-time holidays throughout the year if the occasion is necessary. The government of Palau releases the official dates for all public holidays at the end of each for the upcoming year. Public holidays which occur on a Sunday will be celebrated the following Monday. Those which occur on a Saturday are observed on the previous Friday.
