New Year’s Day is a time of resolutions and starting fresh for some, while for others it is spent recovering from a big, late night spent with friends and family.
Welcoming in the new year and saying goodbye to the old year seems to be a human tradition dating from time immemorial. Every culture does it, only the calendar differing from place to place. Today, most countries use the Gregorian Calendar, making New Year’s Day the most commonly celebrated of all holidays in the world.
In Palau, many attend church services on or around New Year’s Day or Eve. They also hold special family celebrations where food, fellowship, and the countdown to midnight are central. Some also attend fireworks events or just watch them on TV.
