May 1 is Labour Day in New Caledonia, as it is in many other countries of the world.
|2019||1 May||Wed||Labour Day|
|2020||1 May||Fri||Labour Day|
Labour Day events can include workers rallies, street protests, marches, speeches, educational meetings on the history of the day and its meaning, and more. But for many, Labour Day is just a relaxing day off work to spend with friends and family.
Also, in New Caledonia, there are certain unrelated events that occur on or near Labour Day, that give people something to do with their day off. These include the May Avocado Festival in Mare and Nece that runs from 30 April till 2 May. The May Venison and Prawn Festival is also popular, though that comes a week after Labour Day.
Taking to New Caledonia’s pristine beaches, hiking, canoeing, or just indulging in the local seafood and Franco-Melanesian cuisine is also popular on Labour Day.
