Vanuatu celebrates New Year’s Day with a public holiday every 1 January, as does most of the rest of the world. However, the celebrations really begin on New Year’s Eve and reach a high point with the turning of the clock from 11:59pm on 31 December to midnight on 1 January.

In Vanuatu, Christmas Day, Family Day on 26 December, and New Year’s Day form a chain of holidays that span the end of one year and the beginning of the next. This period is a time of great celebration for people all over the country.
Vanuatu incorporates common New Year’s traditions like setting off fireworks, indulging in family feasts, attending church, and visiting family and friends. Going to the beach, watching sport and listening to or playing music is also popular.
