New Year’s Day is a time of resolutions and starting fresh for some, while for others it is spent recovering from a big, late night spent with friends and family.
People in Nauru will generally cook a large special dinner for New Year’s Eve and invite family and friends. They may barbecue outside, catch local fish to add to the menu, play traditional music or dance, and try to avoid catching any “bad luck” that might stick with them through the year just ahead.
And of course, there are firework events here in Nauru on New Year’s Eve. If you’re lucky, you may find one by the beach or where you can see the pyrotechnics exploding over the ocean, reflecting brilliantly off the surface of the water!
