Vijaya Dashami comes at the end of the festive period called “Durga Puja”, a Hindu celebration that runs for five days straight. The main event of Vijaya Dashami is the carrying of Durga idols to various rivers, where they are ritualistically immersed.

The processions with statues of the god Durga and her children takes place during the evening, beginning from local temples, winding through city streets, and ending at a river bank.

There are also large amounts of food distributed in connection with Vijaya Dashami, and many attend temples for religious rites.
