American Samoa as a US territory proudly celebrates holidays observed in the United States. This includes Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday of November, and this is a big holiday here in American Samoa just like in the US.

Schools, government offices, and the majority of private businesses close for Thanksgiving Day and for the following Friday, known as “Black Friday”. Thanksgiving is the unofficial commencement of the Christmas season, while Black Friday is a huge shopping day with huge sales at almost all malls and stores.
Many from American Samoa are US Armed Forces members, and they may be on leave for Thanksgiving break. If not, communicating with them at their post is a common gesture on or around Thanksgiving Day.
Locally, the StarKist plant is the number one employer, and they often give workers extra hours leading up to Thanksgiving and then give them both Thursday and Friday off. Ideally, you have a delicious Thanksgiving feast at home with family and friends, but many restaurants have a Thanksgiving menu too. And local stores offer pick-up Thanksgiving meal packages for those who can’t find the time to prepare their own.
